CORALINE: Film Review
Niel Gaiman takes us on journey; facing our own demons and fears through the eyes of a child. This author, screen play writer, and director has a natural talent of depicting deep symbolism by color, music, images, modes and disturbia. I especially loved his work onfeature Mirrormask. CORALINE is a flawless motion picture that must be watched! It will give a child the fright of the Bogeyman and the adult a fright matched to that of psychological thrillers such as Hannibal. The cast is directed by Henry Selick, you can barley tell a star studded cast are the voices behind the amazing 3D animation. I simply love the film and love CORALINE!
DUMBO: Winter Antiques Pop-Up Market
Of all the places in Brooklyn one keeps on proving its place as a true New York landmark. Dumbo, a industrial style community keeps on banging out original events. I know fairs are American pass time but leave it to Dumbo to have relics from the 1940 whose appearance is fresh out of the box. Winter Antiques Pop Up Market Dumbo is a colection of artists and collectors showcasing passion. I bought these funky glasses which i am gonna pop out and make sunglasses. I also got a hot hoodie and cup of great liquid chocolate. This fair is just full of designer jewelry, clothing, plants and nick knacks. I even found a booth that had toys that are in original boxes from the 20s period. After your done with this fabulous show don’t run away, Bubys down the road has a great menu and the water taxi takes you right into the financial district. The ride is beautiful and the wait at the dock gives you a view of the entire city. All in all the dumbo fair is only there for a few more weeks and would be foolish for anyone to miss.
FEVER RAY: When I Grow Up (Video Premiere)
FEVER RAY isn’t wasting any time, quickly releasing a second single from her debut album Fever Ray. In case you missed my previous post of first single If I Had a Heart, you’ll want to check out that magnificent track and video as well.
When I Grow Up was directed by self proclaimed ‘Director of Different Things’ Martin de Thurah who has previously worked with Royksopp, Mew and a spot for Ikea!
ARTISTS IN EXILE at the Arario Gallery
The ARARIO GALLERY of New York lives up to its reputation of meshing art and culture with Artists in Exile.
I walked into the exhibit captivated by the beautiful intricate works of Sang Ah Choi. I must say, we love you Sang! Her art is so expressive and gives a different opinion from every angle. It must be seen to be fully taken back to the age of five when got your first Disney pop up book. Picture Da Vinci and John Stewart making art together…that’s Sang!
Just down the hall, a massive painted eagle, inspired by American and Palestinian emblems drapes the wall. A remarkable must see! The eagle will captivate your attention. Artist Jaishri Abichandani’s ‘Lifeline’ is a must read, out of all the art in the room, the brilliance of words just touched me.
Perhaps the edgiest artist in this exhibit, Pooneh Maghazehe displays her art through clothing. These garbs are no fashion statement, if Richard the Lion Heart had a stylist, it would be Pooneh. The outfits inspire honor, bravery, and courage. They transmit an idea of what fashion used to be…self expression. Give me one Pooneh!
Those are my favorites of the exhibit, but it would not be a review if I didn’t mention Mike Estabrook and Sonali Sridhar, chalk-on-black works is the corner stone of the event and definitely gives the word artist its homage.
Artist in Exile is true to its title, the works presented in the gallery are true images of there respective countries exiled into art space in New York City.
